Welcome to
Dam Mowing & Maintenance LLC

Your Partner for Dam Safety, Integrity, and Longevity

Why Is Regular Mowing Important?

The largest enemy of any earthen dam is erosion; external or internal, both can have devastating consequences. The best protection is a healthy stand of shallow-rooted native grasses. Regular mowing promotes a dense cover of grassy vegetation that will help protect from surface erosion and does not allow brambles and trees to become established. Trees, brush, and vines can hide a dam embankment making inspections difficult, obscuring hazardous animal activity which can lead to internal erosion, and allow serious problems to be developing undetected. Often dam failure is thought of as a sudden event, when in reality the problem may have been occurring over a long period of time and gone unnoticed.

Why Choose Us?

We have the most ideal equipment to mow slopes safely without damaging turf to maintain your dam with superior quality results. We also have tough-cut mowers to manage briars, brambles, and woody vegetation.

With our service, we exceed the abilities of general lawncare companies - we can check gates & valves, drains, and other critical devices to ensure proper operation when they are needed most. We go above and beyond to cater to each client’s specific needs.

While performing work at your dam, close attention is given to conditions on and around the dam for signs of underlying issues that may be occurring. We provide owners & operators with a report of any unusual conditions that were observed. In many cases, we can provide corrective action and work collaboratively with your engineer and Virginia DCR's regional engineers.

Our mission at Dam Mowing and Maintenance LLC is simple: Dam Safety, Integrity, and Longevity. Our services will help ensure Public Safety for your community and preserve your resource for years of enjoyment.

Brush-Cutting

Dams that are on a bi-annual mowing schedule typically require a bush-hog type mowing. Our brush-cutter can chew through briars, brambles, and thick grass to keep your site maintained. In some cases where mowing maintenance has been neglected and overgrown vegetation and tree saplings have become established, a grubbing & clearing visit may be necessary prior to regular mowing visits. You should be aware that trees are a serious danger to dams, and in some cases removal of large trees and roots may require an alteration permit from DCR-Dam Safety.

Component Maintenance

Many components such as gates, valves, and drains are critical to the function of your dam, but can seize and become inoperable if not exercised regularly. We can include cycling your low-level valves to prevent sediment build-up and seizing to ensure they function when you need them most. We can also check other mechanical devices, toe and chimney drain flow rates, and sediment traps.
